The Rest Fall Behind

Well, how very kind of you, my dear!  I would be honored to have you show me around.  It is my very dear pleasure to meet you Miss Jessica.

Eris thought about his question as to if anything had happened lately to make him change. As she mulled things over in her head, nothing came to mind that would have made Berlioz change the way he did, “I can’t think of anything. Something could have happened at work. He doesn’t tell me about work that much but then again, I don’t know what’s keeping him so busy. It could be work or it could be his family.” She sighed heavily at the mention of his family, “I was supposed to meet them…together for like three months and I haven’t met his family yet. I was supposed to but you know, he never got back to me.”

There was a distressed look on her face as she looked down. This whole situation was worrying her. She looked up as he handed her the glass and a small smile appeared on her lips as their glasses clinked together. She lifted the glass and at the same time as him, she took a sip. The wine smelled and tasted sweet. It was pretty good for wine. She preferred hard core alcohol but she didn’t mind a nice wine here and there. Instead of sip like her dear friend took, she took a long gulp before setting the glass back down and licking away any excess wine from her lips. She then leaned forward and hugged him tightly, “Thank you so much Ratigan but…I don’t think there’s anything you can do. I’m going to have him meet up with me tomorrow night and hopefully we can talk things over.”

Ratigan could not remember a time he had been hugged before, and, even for the cold-hearted villain, it felt good.  ”Well, Eris, let us move on then to happier things.  I’d hate to invite you over just to depress you!  Now, I must say you look quite beautiful today.  Thank you again for looking gorgeous.”

Ratigan took another sip of wine.  ”More, darling?”  He fetched some more for her glass and then continued.  ”So, have you caused any of your glorious chaos recently?  You were always so good at that!  It is a pleasure to watch you work!  Or do you have any plans?  Please, tell me everything and spare no detail!  I feel absolutely horrible not remaining in contact with you while I was gone.  I hope it hasn’t separated us.”  Eris meant a great deal to Ratigan, and he would hate it if any progress they had made in their friendship had dwindled because of his absence.  This was one of the few people he could thoroughly rely on and trust.  Ratigan would most likely tell her anything.  Something he never did with anybody.
